This illustration highlights morphologic features of a Trichostrongylus sp. nematode ovum containing a developing multicellular embryo. Eggs of Trichostrongylus spp. are thin-shelled, colorless, and measure approximately 75–95 µm in length and 40–50 µm in width. They are elongated, taper at one end, and may exhibit a wrinkled inner membrane. These eggs are similar to those of hookworms; however, hookworm eggs are smaller, measuring approximately 60–75 µm by 35–40 µm, and have a lower length-to-width ratio. Eggs are shed in feces.
