This illustration highlights some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by the protozoan flagellate, Trichomonas tenax, a commensal organism that is found in the human oral cavity, and is not normally a cause of disease. In immunocompromised individuals, T. tenax has been linked to periodontal disease.
