Caption:
This illustration highlights some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by three different flagellates, during their cystic stage of development. Included, from left to right, was a Pentatrichomonas hominis, formerly known as Trichomonas hominis, Chilomastix mesnili, and a Giardia lamblia. Note that P. hominis does not pass through a cyst stage during its development. P. hominis and C. mesnili, are classified as nonpathogenic flagellates, while G. lamblia is a human pathogen, responsible for causing the disease known as giardiasis.
