From 1965, this image depicts a seated male, highlighting marked swelling of the left hand following envenomation by the highly venomous snake Bothrops asper, commonly known as the fer-de-lance. Note the bite marks on the dorsum of the left middle finger at the site of fang penetration and venom injection. The image was donated by Dr. Mario E. Pacheco of New Orleans, Louisiana.
