Under a magnification of 300X, this photomicrograph reveals morphological features of the fungal organism, Saprochaete capitata (formerly known as Blastoschizomyces capitatus and Trichosporon capitatum), cultivated on cornmeal Tween® 80 agar (CMTA). The organism produces annelloconidia, which are formed in clusters at the distal tips of annellides borne on specialized conidiogenous hyphae known as annellophores.
