Caption:
This image shows a close left anterior-oblique (AO) view of the face of an 8.5-month-old male infant. A large, irregularly shaped erythematous area is visible and has been diagnosed as a port-wine stain associated with Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS). The lesion is distributed over the region innervated by the ophthalmic division of the trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve V). Sturge-Weber syndrome is a neurologic disorder often associated with seizures. See PHIL 24317 for an anterior view of this infant’s facial birthmark.
