Caption:
This photomicrograph presents a Schistosoma sp. miracidium, the free-swimming larval stage of this parasitic fluke. Miracidia penetrate species-specific snail intermediate hosts, within which they continue development through stages including sporocysts and cercariae. The liberated cercariae are then able to penetrate the skin of a human host.
