Caption:
This photograph depicts a close anterior view of a patient’s forehead, highlighting a cutaneous lesion characteristic of herpes zoster (shingles). The image was captured on the 21st day of illness. Herpes zoster is caused by the varicella-zoster virus (VZV), also known as Human herpesvirus 3 (HHV-3), which remains latent in the nerve roots of individuals who have had chickenpox. The virus can reactivate years later, producing skin lesions distributed along affected nerve pathways.
