This 1963 illustration depicts the human lungs, trachea, and lymph nodes in a case of primary tuberculosis. The lateral aspect of the upper lobe of the right lung shows a primary tuberculous lesion, which, according to the labels, becomes localized within 6–8 weeks. At this stage, the patient would be expected to have a positive tuberculin skin test.
