This photomicrograph of a trichrome-stained specimen reveals the presence of a parasitic Entamoeba coli trophozoite. The trophozoite contains a single nucleus with an eccentrically located karyosome and peripherally distributed chromatin. Note also the coarse, vacuolated (“dirty”) cytoplasm.
