Under 950X magnification, this photomicrograph of an infected rat blood smear was captured during a bartonellosis study focusing on transmission of Mycoplasma haemomuris. Numerous coccoid bacteria are visible attached to the surface of red blood cells (RBCs). See PHIL 24657 for a view of an uninfected rat blood smear sample.
