This photomicrograph of a brain tissue section reveals histopathologic changes associated with infection by the dematiaceous fungal pathogen Cladophialophora bantiana, formerly known as Cladosporium bantianum. Note the darkly stained, septate, filamentous fungal hyphae and associated single-celled fungal elements within the tissue matrix.
