At a magnification of 1500X, this photomicrograph reveals double-walled fungal cells of Blastomyces dermatitidis in a meningeal tissue sample from a patient with North American blastomycosis. Some organisms are reproducing asexually by budding, producing daughter cells that are genetically identical to the parent cell.
