This image presents a close superior view of an infant’s head, stabilized by a physician’s hand during a clinical examination. Note the crusted area on the vertex of the scalp, which is devoid of overlying hair. This lesion was identified as favus, also known as tinea favosa, a dermatophytic infection caused by an unspecified fungal organism.
