This image shows a close anterior view of a patient’s right face, demonstrating findings consistent with erysipelas, a streptococcal infection of the skin and subcutaneous tissues characterized by edema and bright erythema. Purulent discharge from the right eye and serosanguineous exudate from the markedly swollen cheek are evident. See PHIL 2875 for another view of this patient’s condition and PHIL 24912 for post-treatment findings.
