This image depicts a dorsal view of a scarlet snake, Cemophora coccinea. A harmless tricolored species, the scarlet snake may be confused with the venomous eastern coral snake, Micrurus fulvius. However, in C. coccinea, the red bands do not touch the white or yellow bands, and the snout is red rather than black. See PHIL 25005 and 25006 for additional views of this reptile.
