Caption:
This image depicted a very close perineal view of a newborn baby girl, who exhibited anatomical abnormalities diagnosed as a case of a disorder of sexual development (DSD). She had been born with the paired XX, female chromosomes, and did possess ovaries, however, she exhibited hypervirilization of her external genitalia. Note how the female clitoris had become enlarged, resembling the morphology of a penis. These changes had been caused by a condition known as adrenogenital syndrome (AGS), also referred to as adrenal virilism, due to her congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), which in this case, was the salt losing type. See PHIL 25032 and 25033, for addition views of this baby’s malformed external genitalia.
