Caption:
Under a magnification of 1550X, this photomicrograph highlights the structural morphology of the fungal organism Fonsecaea pedrosoi, formerly known as Hormodendrum pedrosoi. This species reproduces via the Cladosporium-type of conidiogenesis, in which shield-shaped primary conidia give rise to chains of dematiaceous, oval-shaped secondary conidia. F. pedrosoi is one of the etiologic agents responsible for chromoblastomycosis.
