Caption:
This left lateral radiograph of the cranium was obtained during pneumoencephalography (PEG), a procedure in which cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) was removed via lumbar puncture and replaced with air, oxygen, or helium to enhance contrast between the ventricular system and surrounding brain parenchyma. The patient was diagnosed with hydrocephalus secondary to congenital toxoplasmosis. The markedly dilated ventricular system appears radiolucent relative to the adjacent brain tissue. See PHIL 25175 for an anterior radiographic view of this patient’s condition.
