This photomicrograph highlights the cytopathic effects (CPE) produced following the addition of varicella-zoster virus (VZV), also known as human alphaherpesvirus 3 (HHV-3), to a fibroblast tissue culture. Varicella-zoster virus is the etiologic agent of chickenpox, also known as varicella.
