This photograph depicts a posterior view of a patient’s buttocks, highlighting a dermatophytosis (ringworm) infection caused by the fungus Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Note the blotchy, erythematous, papular rash in the intergluteal fold extending laterally and inferiorly to involve the bilateral gluteal regions and medial thighs. The image was captured prior to treatment with the antifungal medication griseofulvin. See PHIL 25393 for a view of this patient’s condition after treatment began.
