Caption:
This historic image, captured between 1964 and 1966, depicts a laboratory technician seated in a virus laboratory working with embryonated chicken eggs, pipetting fluids into the eggs. The mouth pipetting technique shown is now obsolete and no longer considered safe. Modern laboratory practice requires the use of mechanical pipetting devices and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including a laboratory coat, gloves, and eye protection.
