Caption:
Under 450X magnification, this photomicrograph of a developing chick embryo highlights histopathologic changes in the endoderm (historically referred to as entoderm) following inoculation with Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the causative agent of gonorrhea. Note the villous hypertrophy of the endodermal cytoarchitecture observed 3 days after infection. See PHIL 25733 for a higher-magnification view of related ectodermal histopathology.
