This photomicrograph, captured at a magnification of 288X, shows a section of heart muscle from a patient with rheumatic heart disease, demonstrating a focal inflammatory lesion consistent with an Aschoff body, characteristic of rheumatic myocarditis following streptococcal infection caused by bacteria of the genus Streptococcus.
