This photomicrograph, captured at a magnification of 14X, shows a section of mitral valve tissue from a patient with rheumatic heart disease, demonstrating fibrous thickening and calcification consistent with calcific mitral stenosis following prior streptococcal infection caused by bacteria of the genus Streptococcus.
