This historic photograph was captured in September 1975 during a visit by Secretary of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (DHEW), Dr. Forrest David Mathews, to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) headquarters on the Roybal Campus in metropolitan Atlanta, Georgia. In this image, Dr. Mathews, at right, is shown inside one of the organization’s laboratories, accompanied by former CDC Director Dr. David Sencer and other associates, including William C. Watson in the background.
