This photomicrograph illustrates morphologic changes in cultured, living human embryonic lung tissue at 72 hours post-inoculation with hepatitis A virus (HAV), identified during an outbreak on an eastern Arizona Native American reservation. Note the cytopathic effects on the fetal lung cells, including cellular clumping consistent with an agglutination-type reaction.
