This historic image from 1979 shows a close-up view of a microtiter plate used in a hemagglutination assay. In wells G13, H13, and H14, red blood cells (RBCs) have settled to form a compact “button” at the bottom of each well. In contrast, wells G14, G15, and H15 demonstrate hemagglutination, producing a diffuse coating along the interior surface of each well.
