Caption:
This historic image from 1979 shows a close-up view of a 30-well microtiter plate used in a hemagglutination assay. In wells C2, D1, and D2, red blood cells (RBCs) have settled to form a compact “button” at the bottom of each well. In contrast, wells C1, C5, and C7 demonstrate hemagglutination, producing a diffuse film along the interior surface of each well.
