After an 18-hour incubation, this image depicts a frontal view of a Petri dish culture plate highlighting lysis by gamma bacteriophage of a culture consisting of smooth (S) and smooth-mucoid (SM) forms of Bacillus anthracis, designated strain 1014, grown on serum agar in CO2. The plate shows isolated colonies and clear zones resulting from the action of concentrated gamma bacteriophage.
