This photograph depicts a right lateral view of a bovine mandible exhibiting pathologic changes consistent with actinomycosis, caused by Gram-positive bacteria of the genus Actinomyces. Note the distortion of the mandibular body and loss of cortical bone, exposing the inner cancellous bone at the site of the lesion.
