Caption:
This historic image depicts a scene from an outlying village in Thailand, where a young child is defecating into an adjacent waterway while squatting on a log, under the supervision of an adult. Other family members are visible in the background. Such practices, once associated with inadequate sanitation infrastructure, have become uncommon in modern-day Thailand. This photograph was captured during a public health field exercise focused on hookworm transmission.
