Caption:
Captured in central Thailand, this historic image depicts aquatic plants known as water caltrops of the genus Trapa, displayed on a white cloth after being collected from a local water source. Both the fruit and seeds are edible, either raw or cooked. Improperly cooked caltrops can transmit the trematode parasite Fasciolopsis buski to humans, causing fasciolopsiasis within 2 to 3 months after ingestion.
