Caption:
Captured in northeast Thailand, this historic image presents a Thai boy diagnosed with opisthorchiasis, a parasitic disease caused by the Southeast Asian liver fluke Opisthorchis viverrini. The visible abdominal distention is consistent with hepatomegaly, or enlargement of the liver, a clinical feature associated with infection.
