Captured in 1954, this historic image depicts a U.S. soldier applying DDT (dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane) spray inside the sleeve of a fellow soldier during a demonstration in what appears to be a military barracks. This activity was performed as an experimental method to prevent the spread of typhus through arthropod vector bites.
