This image depicts an open Petri dish culture plate containing an agar growth medium that became contaminated after a cockroach was directed to walk across its surface. This exercise was conducted to demonstrate that cockroaches can act as disease carriers. See PHIL 26946, which shows the roach walking across the agar surface and depositing microbiologic contaminants that produced the colonial growth exhibited here.
