This image depicts a close posterior view of a Filipino patient’s buttocks, highlighting the presence of a circular hypopigmented, plaque-like lesion on the right buttock, which was diagnosed as an early case of leprosy, or Hansen’s disease, caused by the Gram-positive bacterium, Mycobacterium leprae. Tiny lesions can also be seen on the contralateral buttock as well.
