Caption:
This photograph depicts a lateral view of a patient’s head and neck, highlighting an ulcerative submandibular lesion that had been diagnosed as a case of the fungal infection known as blastomycosis, caused by a fungal organism of the genus, Blastomyces. Captured before having begun any treatment, the lesion exhibited morphology typical to that of blastomycosis, including an overall rough, warty or verrucous texture, bumpy periphery, and an ulcerated, or depressed central region. See PHIL 27017 for the appearance of this lesion after initiating unidentified treatment.
