This historic 1962 photograph depicted the interior of what was referred to as a bobo hut. It was located in the village of Wakara, Upper Volta, about 100-miles from the city of Bobo-Dioulasso. The image was captured during a field experiment, carried out to evaluate the effects of the residual fumigant insecticide, dichlorvos (2,2-dichlorovinyl dimethyl phosphate) (DDVP), an organophosphate. The insecticide was implemented as a malaria eradication technique. Note that in 1984, Upper Volta changed its name, thereafter, to be known as Burkina Faso. Two mosquito cages used in this experiment were visible inside the hut.
