This photograph depicted a swelling of the left inner thigh, which was diagnosed as a case of lymphangitis and lymphadenitis, which means that this patient had developed an inflammation of both the lymph nodes, and lymph vessels, respectively. This condition was due to a case of lymphatic filariasis, a parasitic disease caused by mosquito-borne, thread-like filarial nematodes. The adult worms only live in the human lymphatic system, blocking the flow of lymph.
