This photomicrograph highlights the histopathologic appearance of arterioles and venules in what was thought to be tissue from the spermatic cord. The sample had been harvested from a lymphatic filariasis patient. Note the hyperproliferation of the innermost vascular layer, the tunica intima, forming what’s known as papillary projections into the vascular lumina. Present, is a considerable eosinophilic inflammatory reaction within the perivascular tissues. Though no microfilariae are visualized, this histopathology is commonly encountered in the vicinity of adult worms.
