Caption:
This was a photomicrograph of an unidentified tissue specimen that had been harvested from a lymphatic filariasis (LF) patient. In this view, you can see what was noted as a dead microfilaria (arrowhead), that was undergoing calcification. It exhibited an irregular shape, and stained a deeper blue at one end, with a lack of internal structures at the other end. Also note the presence of numbers of degenerating polymorphonuclear (PMN) leukocytes in the area as it underwent suppuration, or necrosis during this focal necrotizing inflammatory reaction.
