This photograph highlights some of the gross pathologic changes exhibited by an intestinal tissue specimen that had been extracted from a patient who was ill with amebiasis. You are looking at the intestinal mucosa in the region of the cecum, that had become ulcerative, erythematous, and in some areas, necrotic, due to this amebic infection. See PHIL 27041, for a closer view of these ulcerative lesions.
