This photograph features a close view of an excised section of intestine, and highlights some of the gross pathologic changes exhibited by the intestinal mucosa. This specimen had been extracted from a patient who was ill with a case of amebiasis. Looking closely at the intestinal mucosa you are able to see an ulcerative, erythematous area, due to this amebic infection.
