This photograph features a close interior view of an excised section of intestine, and highlighted some of the gross pathologic changes exhibited by the intestinal mucosa. This specimen had been extracted from a patient who was ill with a case of amebiasis. Looking closely at the mucosal lining, you are able to see an ulcerative, erythematous reaction, due to this amebic infection.
