This photograph shows an excised section of intestine and highlights the gross pathologic changes exhibited by the intestinal mucosa. This specimen was obtained from a patient with amebiasis. The intestinal mucosa displays numerous hemorrhagic areas on the mucosal surface resulting from the amebic infection.
