This photograph shows a close view of an excised section of intestine and highlights the gross pathologic changes exhibited by the intestinal mucosa. This specimen was obtained from a patient with amebiasis. Close examination of the intestinal mucosa reveals a severe ulcerative, erythematous reaction resulting from the amebic infection. See PHIL 27036 and 27040 for additional views of this specimen.
