This photograph shows a close view of an excised section of intestine and highlights the gross pathologic changes exhibited by the intestinal mucosa. This specimen was obtained from a patient with amebiasis. Close examination of the intestinal mucosa reveals small surface ulcerative lesions resulting from this amebic infection.
