Caption:
This photomicrograph shows a Wright’s-stained buffy coat specimen extracted from an incubated, sieved blood sample obtained from a patient with lupus erythematosus (LE). The slide highlights the “L.E. phenomenon,” here seen as a characteristic rosette formation (pointer), composed of a cluster of phagocytic white blood cells that have engulfed nuclear material released through the lysis of lymphocytes.
