Captured in Puerto Rico in 1962 during a schistosomiasis field study, this image shows Dr. George H. Connell (foreground) and Dr. Frederick F. Ferguson collecting snails from an aquatic environment. Dr. Ferguson was a former Chief of the Tropical Disease Section in the Ecological Investigations Program at the National Communicable Disease Center, Public Health Service (PHS), Bureau of Disease Prevention and Environmental Control, U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW), and was stationed at the USPHS Field Station in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
